I have nothing but great memories as a young girl going to the Carrels along with the Southerns for Friday evening get-togethers, and Dorothy as the gracious hostess with her beautiful smile and laugh. It amazes me now to think of the difficulties she endured as a young widow with two children and yet retained her joyous spirit and faithfulness in God. She is a great role model, and what joy to know that someday we can all resume those great “party times” with her and the gang from Franklin Road!
Such a wonderful Christian woman, so easy to love. When she decided to stop cleaning the Franklin Road Church of Christ, she trained me to do it. I will never forget her words which completely changed my attitude toward the job; she said, “I always think of it as cleaning house for the Lord.” “People can be messy at church, just as much as they are in their homes but if you think of it as cleaning for the Lord it’s much easier. ” A funny memory….I went to Franklin Road Church of Christ from 1967- 1988. I married my husband, Mike in 1974. Dottie frequently called him “Steve.” Finally, one day Mike looked at her and jokingly said, “Oh that’s okay, Gladys!” She cracked up laughing! Dottie leaves behind a wonderful legacy of love and kindness.
Sweet Aunt Dottie, it was always exciting to know that we were going to your home when I was a young girl. You and your home was always warm, friendly, and filled with love. Also, I would get to see my dear cousin Lois Ann. What great memories playing together as children. We also shared your brother who was my Dad whom we loved very much. So comforting to know that for all eternity you will be in heaven welcoming us to the eternal home of love. Tears of Joy I share with all the Family at this time of Dottie’s passing into Glory.
