Daniel Baxter Carrington's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel Baxter Carrington, affectionately known as DD, announces his passing early Sunday morning, November 3, 2024, from an extended illness.
That sadness is fortified by joy confidently knowing that Dan is now perfectly whole in his heavenly home with the Lord. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in Me will never die” (John 11:25-26). Dan (DD) was an inspiration to all who knew him and was loved by many! He left behind a great legacy of love for the Lord, his family, and others, and the impact of his life will be felt for many years to come.
He was born on April 24, 1943, in Memphis, TN to Aubrey and Francis Carrington. He graduated from Whitehaven High School in 1961 and then attended MSU. He served in the National Guard for six years. He worked for MLGW and Delta Airlines until he acquired his dream job of working as an air-traffic-controller for the FAA. He retired from there after 42 years.
He was very happily married to his wife, Linda. They have two daughters Michelle and Amby. He had many passions including flying, hunting, woodworking, antiques, camping and eating. However, he had several favorite things. He loved spending time with his family. He also loved his church, Collierville First Baptist, where he served as a deacon and was on various other committees. Additionally, Dan also loved volunteering with The Gideons International where he served as president of the local Bartlett Camp, state area director, state regional director and state faith fund chairman. Being a Gideon gave him many opportunities to give out Bibles and share his faith.
He leaves behind his wife Linda, his daughters Michelle Harrison (Tim) and Amby Kirby (Ted), grandchildren Graham (Mary Faith), Garret, Gray, and Griffin (Ryan-Elizabeth), and great grandson Steele. He also leaves behind a brother, Aubrey (Liz), a sister, Marsha, a sister-in-law, Suzanne (Roland), nine nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. His parents, Aubrey Riser Carrington and Francis Baxter Carrington, preceded him in death.
Services will be held at Collierville First Baptist Church on Friday, November 8, 2024. Visitation will be 11:30-12:30 with the service immediately following. Graveside will follow at Memorial Park on Poplar Ave. at 2pm.
