Cliff Plunk's Obituary
Monroe Clifford (Cliff) Plunk, Jr., went to be with his Lord and Savior at 9:52 pm at the Memphis Jewish Home, February 6, 2016, just one week shy of his 101st birthday. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 68 years, Frances Dunlap Plunk, his sister Mildred McCallum, and his brother Vernon Plunk.He is lovingly remembered by his sons, Cliff III (Linda) and Bob (Molly), his adored grandchildren, Ainslie, Jared (Lauren), Whitney (Andy), and Drew (Chloe), and four great grandchildren, Annie, Cole, Baker, and Lola.Cliff Plunk, Jr., was born in Okalona, MS, on February 14, 1915. He grew up in Jackson, TN, and attended West TN Business College and Union University.A World War II Army veteran, he worked for Proctor & Gamble at the Milan TN Arsenal as a Labor Recruiter. While there he met and married the love of his life, Frances Dunlap, from Sharon, TN.Later they resided in Jackson, TN, and he was employed by CIT Financial Corporation, was active in the Masonic Lodge #45, and the Jackson Jaycees (directing the annual beauty pageant, a preliminary to the Miss America Pageant).Cliff became a Division Manager and Vice-President for CIT after a relocation to Memphis. He also served as President of the Tennessee Consumer Finance Association and was a member of the Al Chymia Shrine of Memphis.After “retirement” from CIT, he became a member of the Board of Trustees at Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis. He served as the first Director of Development for Briarcrest.Most importantly, he loved the Lord and was a gifted Bible Study teacher at several Baptist churches, including Poplar Avenue, East Park/Briarcrest and most recently at Ridgeway Baptist (teaching the “Sweet Spirit” couples class for over 20 years).“Granddaddy” will be greatly missed by his family, but we rejoice that this is not the end…we know we will see him again!“Verily,verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everylasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but is passed from death unto life” John 5:24Visitation will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 10, with visitation at 12:00 pm followed by the funeral service at 1 pm.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ridgeway Baptist Church, 2500 Ridgeway Rd, Memphis, TN, 38119.
