Chatman Mathews' Obituary
Chatman Mathews, Jr. (fondly known as Brother and Chat) was born in Macon, Mississippi on April 11, 1928 to the late Chatman Mathews, Sr. and Minnie Joiner Mathews. One sister was born to this union, Lillie Pearl Binion, who preceded him in death. He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age in Mississippi. After relocating to Memphis he joined Promiseland Missionary Baptist Church. He later joined Oakville Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Richmond Savage. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the US Army and retired from MLG&W as a pipe-fitter with over 35 years of dedicated service. He was united in holy matrimony to Cordie V. Kenney who preceded him in death in 2004. His fun loving memory will forever be cherished by: four daughters, Brenda Robinson (James), Carmella Thompson (Giles), Linda Harris, and Mary Gordon; three sons, Venson Mathews, Vernon Mathews (Volanté) and Terry Johnson; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, (901)767-8930, “Behind the Stone Wall”.
