Charles Jeffrey Simpson's Obituary
CHARLES JEFFREY “Jeff” SIMPSON was welcomed into the Kingdom of God on August 3, 2014. A resident of Memphis and of New York City, Jeff spent his childhood years in Memphis where he became an Eagle Scout, was President of the Student Government and was an Academic All American football player at Overton High School. Jeff was appointed to the United States Naval Academy in 1967 and served until his senior year when he transferred and graduated from the University of Florida. He began his professional career in Memphis with IBM and continued working with IBM in Atlanta, Los Angeles and San Francisco. In 1986, he began working with Oracle where he ultimately became Worldwide Vice President of Telecommunications. Jeff went on to be the CEO of several companies, most recently Guidewire in Foster City, California. Jeff was retired and presently serving on the Board of Transilio Corporation based in Boise, Idaho. Jeff is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Baird Simpson of 40 years; brother, Paul Simpson and wife, Carol of Germantown; sister, Sue Simpson Warr of Johnson City, TN; brother-in-law, Dr. Malcolm Baird and wife, Debbie of Nashville, TN; niece, Jennifer Baird of Mandeville, LA; nephew, Lt. Colonel Kevin Baird, his wife, Elizabeth and their children, Matthew and Kristen of Yorktown, VA; and his nephew, Robert Baird, his wife, Katie, and their children, William and Mary Turner of Mandeville, LA. Jeff was predeceased by his nephew, Preston Giles Simpson. Embracing the grace of God, Jeff was a member of Independent Presbyterian Church in Memphis and a committed student of the scriptures. He will be remembered as a generous, witty, intelligent man who loved God and the company of family and friends. He was the consummate salesman, a mentor and advisor to many, and a lover of the arts. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, August 7 in the Rotunda of Independent Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 8 in the Sanctuary of Second Presbyterian Church. The entombment at Memorial Park Cemetery will be private.
