Charles Edward "Chuck" Fant,'s Obituary
Charles E. “Chuck” Fant, III, 63, devoted husband, father, grandfather, musician and model plane enthusiast, died May 13 from complications of esophageal cancer.Chuck was a Navy veteran and a co-founder of Environmental Test and Balance Company, a Memphis-based engineering, testing and balancing firm he began with his partner, the late Walt Green, in 1982. He was a professional mechanical engineer who had a long history of mechanical system design and over 30 years experience in the test and balance industry. As Chuck and Walt described it their partnership was formed with “a mutual commitment to the betterment of the industry and HVAC performance.” The two shared a “commitment to professional independent testing and balancing, customer satisfaction, and most of all honesty and integrity.” One of many accomplishments was in 1989 when Chuck and Walt developed the testing standard for the AABC Certified Technician Program.Chuck is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Luanne Fant. They were married on September 10, 1983. The couple shared a passion for wildlife and their home in a heavily wooded setting in Cordova is surrounded by bird feeders. Chuck was also a model plane enthusiast who built elaborate flying replicas of his favorites. He was a musician who played several musical instruments, loved The Beatles and enjoyed producing his own musical tracks in a basement studio that also served as his model plane factory.In addition to his wife, Chuck is survived by a son, Michael (Gail), three grandchildren, Addison, Carter, and Jimmy, a sister, Pam (Ron) Booth, and a brother, Tony (Denissa) Fant, several nieces and nephews, and many, many friends and other family members who will miss him greatly.Visitation with family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave., with a memorial service following at 2:30 p.m. Memorial donations should be sent to The Mid-South Raptor Center, 1176 Dearing Rd., Memphis, TN 38117, or Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer, 333 E.
