Charlena Embry's Obituary
Charlena Faye Ward Embry passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, February 17th in Johns Creek, GA at the age of 94.
Charlena was born on September 1, 1929 in Reading, OH as the youngest of four children to Albert and Lillie Ward. After graduating from Springboro High School, she moved to Dayton, OH where she worked for NCR. It was there that she met and later married Bert Embry on November 23, 1950. She and Bert raised two sons, Jim and Mike and a foster son, Ross Wilson. They moved numerous times early in their marriage for his job. Charlena always welcomed new experiences and friendships and became an involved member of the local Church of Christ. She also was an avid bowler, who was once recognized for a 248 score in league bowling. After her husband Bert and son Jim passed, Charlena moved to Johns Creek, GA in 2013 where she quickly became close friends with her neighbors and a beloved member at Buford Church of Christ. She had a passion for flowers, bird watching, and music. She continued to garden and play her guitar and organ until her death.
Charlena is survived by her son David Michael Embry (Terry), sister Phyllis Ward Duvall, grandson, Jeffrey Embry (Amanda), great-granddaughter Everly Embry, and granddaughters Katherine Embry Burnett (Jonathan) and Caroline Embry Grant (Daniel).
She was preceded in her death by her parents Albert John and Lillie Myrtle Ward, brother Kenneth Ward, sister Erna Ward Abrams, husband Berthyl Embry, and son James Lloyd Embry (Jennifer).
Charlena will be buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, TN alongside Bert, her husband of nearly 60 years, and their beloved son Jim.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Embry will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 10:00am in the Fireside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation an hour prior to the service starting at 9:00am. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
