Caroline Grant
My grandma Charlena Embry was a vibrant wonderful woman that showered loved on everyone she met. Growing up I treasured our trips to Germantown, Tennessee. Although we only got to see her and my Memphis family only a few times a year, I have fond memories of her teaching Katherine and me to bake, and her always making fish sticks and Mac n cheese for her picky granddaughter. As we got older, I treasured hearing more of her stories about the various dogs they had over the years, and the various places she lived through her many moves. In college, I treasured the letters she wrote me, telling me about life in GA and encouraging me during every season.
The last 7 years since being back in GA, I truly treasured being able to live so close to her. There are so many memories from these years I will miss but forever cherish. Talking out on her patio, surrounded by her beautiful flowers. Sunday afternoon family lunches of Publix fried chicken at her condo. Hearing her say over and over that she wouldn’t sell her 2002 Highlander for a million dollars. Seeing her love my husband like her own grandchild from the first time I introduced him. Celebrating each of her birthdays with her favorite peach pound cake. Watching the joy on her face as she pet our pups, and her laughs when I showed her silly pictures of them. The hundreds of huge hugs from my petite Grandma.
Although I will miss my grandma tremendously, I am so thankful for the 29 years I had with her. With her abundance of love, I know she impacted so many souls during her 94 years on this earth. I am honored to celebrate such a beautiful woman that I was so blessed to be able to call Grandma.
