Billy Ray McLaughlin's Obituary
Mr. Billy Ray McLaughlin age 87 of Germantown, Tennessee passed away on June 29, 2024.
He was born on November 1, 1936 in Florence, Alabama to the late James McLaughlin and Pokie Stutts McLaughlin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, three sisters and six brothers.
Bill was known for his love of family, strong work ethic and willingness to help anyone. This allowed him to persevere, succeed in life, and support his family and friends. He was proud to call Bruceville, outside of Halls, TN, his hometown. After graduating from Halls High School, he attended Memphis State University and then served in the US Army. After receiving his honorable discharge, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Martha, and settled into a career in real estate in Chattanooga. He completed his undergraduate degree at UT Chattanooga.
A few years later, Bill moved the family to Memphis and continued his career in commercial real estate and banking. Bill loved the outdoors and for many years enjoyed fishing with his brothers at Beaver Dam Lake in Mississippi. But everyone that spent time around him, knows that “Mac” enjoyed his woodworking responsibilities at The Village and loved to be out in his vegetable garden at Shelby Farms. He was always generous in sharing the produce and grew some of the best tasting tomatoes in the area (according to family and friends).
Bill was a longtime member of Emmanuel Methodist Church and cherished his many friends there. He doted on his children and grandchildren and was so proud of all their accomplishments. His strong Christian faith and unquenchable desire to help those in need were his most cherished qualities.
He is survived by his son, Scot C McLaughlin (Laurel); his daughter, Kimberly D Morgan (Greg); granddaughters, Layton and Mabry Pegg and one sister Emma Jean Williams.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm in the Riverside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Memorials may be sent to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 2404 Kirby Road, Memphis TN 38119, The Village Foundation, 7820 Walking Horse Circle, Germantown TN 38138 or the charity of your choice.
