Bill Gaddie's Obituary
Reverend Bill L. Gaddie, 87, of Memphis, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, after a lengthy illness. He was born May 3, 1929, in Hickman, KY to Mossie Belle and Herman L. Gaddie. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Monette Shaw; and son-in-law, Edward Barnes and is survived by his sister, Sue Nipp (Ferrell).Reverend Gaddie graduated from Hickman High School, Lambuth College, Cumberland Presbyterian Theological Seminary (Bethel), and Memphis Theological Seminary. He did post graduate work at Candler School of Theology (Atlanta). He served as a United Methodist minister in the Memphis Annual Conference for 45 years being appointed to congregations in Sassafras Ridge, KY; Troy, TN; Memphis, TN; Somerville, TN; Lexington, TN; Jackson, TN; and Paducah, KY. He was an avid reader, enjoyed singing and listening to music and woodworking. He and his children built a cabin on Mockingbird Hill of Lakeshore United Methodist Assembly, Eva, TN that remains in the family.He and Martha Hampton married in 1951 and have five children, Carol Barnes, David Gaddie (Nancy), Michael Gaddie (Michelle), Andy Gaddie (Teresa), and Susan Beth Gaddie (Jennifer Garland).In 1979, he and Gail Clay Williamson married. Bill has three step-daughters, Amy Moore (Bobby), Karen Udovich (Bob), and Linda Fleming (John Henry). He leaves a loving legacy to 19 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.Visitation will be Friday, September 16 from 5-8 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, Memphis, TN. A Celebration of Life for Reverend Gaddie will be held on Saturday, September 17 at 2:30 p.m. with the family receiving friends at 1:30 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Wilson Chapel, Memphis, TN. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Marston Benevolence Fund at Christ United Methodist Church or Memphis Theological Seminary. The family would like to thank Methodist Hospice for their loving and kind care during these last few months.
