Betty Sue Harper's Obituary
Betty Harper passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in Jackson, Tennessee, Betty attended Jackson High School and Lambuth College. After relocating to Memphis in the early 1970s, she continued her successful banking career with Union Planters for over 30 years and later with other financial institutions.
Betty and her husband, James C. Harper, were married for an extraordinary 60 years. They raised three children and cultivated a close-knit circle of cherished friends. Betty possessed a passion for cooking and enjoyed shopping for clothing and antiques
Betty was an extraordinary woman of unwavering strength and resilience, and her absence will be deeply felt. She is survived by her son, Jeff (Meredith), granddaughter Katherine; son-in-law, Scott Grissom, granddaughter Devin Roper (Jameson); and Betty’s great-grandchildren, Ellison and Henley Roper. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Harper; son, James C. Harper, Jr.; and daughter, Susan Harper Grissom.
A memorial service for Betty will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Memorial Park Funeral Home, located at 5668 Poplar Ave. The service will commence at 2:00 PM, with a visitation preceding it at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Betty, a cancer survivor, to the V Foundation, v.org, in support of cancer research.
