Bert Hawkins' Obituary
Bertrand (Bert) Hawkins, 81, of Collierville, TN, left his earthly home and stepped into heaven on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Bert was born on February 10, 1943, in St. Louis, MO. His family moved to Port Huron, MI, where he went to elementary school and then on to Kennett, MO, where he completed high school. The family then moved to Jonesboro, AR, where he attended Arkansas State University. He was working for National Cash Register Company when he was transferred to Memphis in 1974. After working at NCR, and Baddour, Inc., Bert completed his career as a computer analyst at FedEx in 2013.
Bert’s absolute favorite activities were serving his Savior and others, including his wife Bobbie, his sons, extended family, church family, and neighbors. He served with dedication and expertise as a cameraman at Bellevue Baptist Church and as Security at Crossroads Baptist Church and currently at The Campus Church at Mid-America. His goals in life were to love God; love and care for his family; read, learn and share God’s Word; and protect God’s family at church.
After meeting his wife Bobbie at Bellevue in 1974 and marrying her in 1975, they raised three sons. They were married 49.5 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eufford and Ethel Hawkins. He is survived by his wife Bobbie, his three sons Peter Hawkins of Collierville, Andrew Hawkins (Sarah) of Lebanon, TN, and Philip Hawkins of Collierville, and two grandchildren, Ryleigh and Rayden Hawkins--all who cherished his very presence.
A service celebrating Bert’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, 2095 Appling Rd., Cordova, TN. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Burial will be at 1:30 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery on 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN.
