My deepest sympathy goes to Ben’s family. He will be so sadly missed by so many, and certainly to my son, Tim McDermott, who was devastated by his death. Tim and Ben were good friends all through high school and he was at our house many times. He also worked for my husband a year or so after college and everyone absolutely adored him—we always said that if he left, we would lose half of our business. Ben was just a wonderful guy and I know that he’s entertaining a lot of people in heaven now that he’s there. He certainly made so many happy while he was here.

Ben and I used to play backgammon. He gave me a very nice board for Christmas over 35 years ago. I still play backgammon on that board with my brother and think of Ben every time I do. I am so very sorry for your loss and your family is in my prayers.

I moved to Memphis in 1990 and left late 1991. I met Ben through my cousin Wes Parker. Ben was 6 years older than me and we hit it off from day one. My Mother was fighting for her life with ovarian cancer and she passed August 1991. The time I spent in Memphis was a struggle but knowing Ben he was my light. Ben was always there for me, he always was positive and he always uplifted me. If we went out for a beer and I was short Ben would always say “I got this one, no worries”. I will miss him dearly, my thoughts and prayers go out to the Cheatham family.RIP Ben.Ron Kahoun Chicago IL

To Ben’s Family,I am a radiologist from Huntingdon, TN and was a client of Ben’s for about 15 years. During that time I got to know Ben mostly through our long and wide ranging phone calls covering business, politics, family, spiritual matters and it seemed everything in between. He was quite the conversationalist and I quickly found out very very sharp. I remember that we talked about not being able to completely know another person’s heart but as I think back on things that he said and the way he said them I am convinced that Ben is with his Heavenly Father today.
