Barbara Jean Tole's Obituary
Barbara Jean Tole, 83, of Memphis, TN, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 at Sycamore Village Assisted Living in Swansea, IL.
Barbara was born August 3,1937 in Bentonia, MS. After graduating Humes High School in Memphis, TN, she continued her education, obtaining a nursing degree and becoming a registered nurse. Later she completed U.S Air Force Medical Service Training and was commissioned as an officer, obtaining the rank of First Lieutenant. She continued her career for 5 years at Fairfax County Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia and later at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN where she faithfully served for over 30 years. At St. Francis she was recognized as one of the Top 100 nurses in Shelby County an accomplishment that was a source of tremendous pride. Barbara was a dedicated member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Cordova, TN, and volunteered her free time to the church and various charities in the Memphis area. She will be deeply missed by her family and all those she loved.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; Johnny and Margaret Graham (nee Ship).
Surviving are her two children; Michael Tole of Memphis, TN and Tim (Cynthia) Tole of O’Fallon, IL, one sister, Peggy Youngblood of Coldwater, MS; and two grandchildren Nathaniel Tole and Hannah Tole.
The visitation will be held Friday, June 25, 2021 from 1:30 p.m. until the service time at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis TN. A private family graveside service will be held Saturday, June 26 at Memorial Park Southwoods Cemetery, 5485 Hacks Cross Rd., Memphis TN 38125.
