Andrew Joseph Soltys, Jr.'s Obituary
Andrew Joseph Soltys Jr, 81, of Cordova, TN, passed away peacefully at home on November 21, 2017 with his wife by his side. Andrew was born August 19, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Andrew and Mary Soltys. He graduated from St Joseph University and received his Master’s degree from George Peabody College at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Andrew began his career as a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in April 1961, where he specialized in espionage investigations. Throughout his 21 years of service with the state of Tennessee, he served as Assistant Director in charge of training at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy in Donelson, TN; Director of Investigations for the Tennessee Department of Consumer Affairs; Director of Investigations for the Regulatory Boards Division of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance; and Director of Internal Affairs for the Tennessee Department of Corrections. He was a member of several professional and criminal justice organizations including the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP); Memphis Criminal Investigators Association (MCIA); and has been an active member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI (SOFSA) and the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) for more than 40 years. Andrew is survived by his wife of 58 years, Florence Soltys, nee Gardner, who remained his dedicated, compassionate caregiver throughout his extended illness. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his daughters, Theresa Mitchell (William) of Memphis, TN and Andrea Calvery (Mike) of Saltillo, MS; granddaughters, Nichole, Ashleigh, Katharyn, and Lauryn Mitchell of Memphis, TN and grandson Ben Calvery of Saltillo, MS. The family has lost a devoted husband and father who loved his family and friends dearly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 24, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 (901) 767-8930 “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”.
