Alyce Mary Guthrie's Obituary
Alyce Mary Guthrie, known to her loved ones as Alyce, Mama, Grandy, and A.M., passed away on June 8, 2023, at the age of 79 in Memphis, Tennessee. Alyce was born on July 29, 1943, in Memphis to James Madden "Boats" Newberry and Alyce Mary Newberry. She graduated from White Station High School and the University of Memphis.
Alyce owned and operated Guthrie Rexall Drugs in Whitehaven and Nite Lites aerial advertising with her husband. She later became the Executive Vice President and Treasurer of PT Boats Inc. for nearly 40 years. PT Boats, Inc., is a historical nonprofit organization established by veterans of WW II PT service to preserve the history of Patrol Torpedo Boats.
She was a long time member of The Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots and Historical Naval Ships Association.
In her free time, Alyce had a great love for dogs, especially her rescued beagle, Elco. She enjoyed camping and traveling with her family all over the country, including many holidays spent on the gulf coast with her family. Alyce loved motor homing with husband Tom in the western mountains and visiting museums with her daughter and granddaughter.
Alyce is survived by her lifelong best friend and husband Thomas C. Guthrie III, her daughter Allyson G. Bethune, her granddaughter Hayley A. Bethune and her son-in-law Rick Bethune. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Steele C. Guthrie and brother James E. Newberry.

A memorial service will be held Monday June 19, 2023 at 2:00pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home with a visitation prior starting at 1:00pm.
