Zardrill Margaret Dowty's Obituary
Zardrill Margaret Dowty, age 98, passed away at her home on May 12, 2019. She was born on February 27, 1921 in Walnut, MS to Thomas B. and Zelma J. Hollis. On May 20,1939, she married J.L. Dowty. They were married for over 68 years.Mrs. Dowty will be most remembered for her determined and independent spirit and her quotes of “One day at a time sweet Jesus, one day at a time” and “you just can’t stop moving”. She loved the Grizzles, Memphis Tigers and supervising all the activity on Hayne Road.She was a member of White Station Baptist Church. For the past several years she has not been able to attend church and Balmoral Baptist Church ministered to her.Mrs. Dowty is survived by several generations of nieces and nephews, Georgia Henson, Chris Columbus, and Donna Griffin, who helped take care of her; great-nephew, Thomas F. Miller (Michele), great-niece Sarah Miller (Mike); and her great-great-nieces/nephews, William Franklin Miller, Annah Margaret Miller, Maxwell Green Miller, and Katherine Hollis Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.L Dowty; her sisters, Zep Miller, Zoe Thornton, and Moval Pennypacke; and her nephew, Cmdr. Kenneth Frank Miller.The family would like to thank Dr. Gordon Kraus and Dr. Bobo for taking exceptional care of Mrs. Dowty for these many years. A special thanks to the Griffin, Hodge and Davis families. You were not only her neighbor but you were her family too.The family will receive friends on Friday, May 17 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 4:00 p.m., all at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
