Winston F. Dickey, age 97, passed away peacefully at his son’s home, July 27, 2013 surrounded by his family. Fiercely independent, he remained mobile until the last month despite deteriorating joints. He was born May 24, 1916, to the late Garner and Mabel (Adkins) Dickey in Covington, TN. With the doctor recording his birth as May 25 he had the joy of celebrating his birthday either day. Preceding him in death was his cherished stepfather; Otto Hinchey, all five siblings and their spouses whom he loved; Oren Lafayette Dickey, Mafalda Dickey Terrell, Carey William Dickey, Buel Earl Dickey and Annie Laura Fleming; and niece Betty Sue Darling. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dorothy Anne (Baxter) Dickey, his son, Winston F. Dickey and Connie, and grandson, Martin Dickey of Luttrell, TN. Seven remain to cherish his memory: Jeannine Taylor, David Terrell, Robert Dickey, Lelani Kinguard, Earl Dickey, Bob Dickey, John Fleming and Richard Fleming. After the loss of his sister it was his joy was to serve as grandfather to the 12 Fleming children. Their affections were mutual.
