Wilma B. Hawkins' Obituary
Wilma B. Hawkins, 94, of Memphis, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joe W. Hawkins and a grandson, Mark Ferguson. She is survived by her son, Joe Wayne Hawkins and his wife, Frances, a daughter, Martha Rutherford and her husband, Gary, three grandchildren, Eric Hawkins and his wife, Monica, Jill Walsh and her husband, Drew, and Michael Ferguson and his wife Robin, and two great grandchildren, Kyle and Devin Walsh. Wilma was active in First Methodist Church of Jackson, Tennessee for 46 years before moving to Memphis in 1988 and joining Christ United Methodist Church. Born on Valentines’ Day describes Wilma perfectly. She was a wonderful Christian lady whose love radiated to everyone around her. She gave lots of hugs and loved to receive them. Her entire family loved her and she was a role model for them and all who knew her. Wilma’s hobbies included gardening, reading, and writing poetry and short stories. Wilma had a sharp and active mind and a quick sense of humor and she will be missed by all who knew her. The visitation will be held Friday, March 8, from 11:30 a.m until the service time at 1 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment will be in the Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family request that any memorials be sent to Christ United Methodist Church, Germantown Methodist Church, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
