William Arthur Wooten's Obituary
William Arthur Wooten, Jr. , 91, passed away March 2, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 13, 1921. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Arthur and Mabel Wooten, and his brother, James Martin Wooten. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret Gooch Wooten and his daughters, Nancy Stewart, Betty Bennett (John), and Lynn Harrison. He is also survived by 7 loving grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A lifelong Memphian, he attended Idlewild, Fairview, Central, and Southwestern, now known as Rhodes College. After serving in World War II with the Army Signal Corps, he returned to Memphis and worked at L.T.Barringer & C.O., a subsidiary of Cannon Mills Cotton Co., for 35 years, retiring as CEO in 1983. He was elected President to the Memphis Cotton Exchange in 1983. He attended White Station Church of Christ for 58 years and leaves many friends there. A devoted husband and father, He loved golfing and vacationing with his family at the beach. He will be missed by his family and many friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, Monday, March 4, 2013 and a funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, March 5, 2013 both at Memorial Park Funeral Home with the entombment to follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family requests that memorials be sent to White Station Church of Christ, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the charity of donor’s choice.
