William "Lewis" Wood's Obituary
William Lewis Wood, Jr., 90, passed away on September 14, 2016. Lewis was born in Starkville, MS, one of two children of William Lewis Wood, Sr and Helen Young Wood. He graduated from Central High in Memphis and the University of Tennessee. He practiced Engineering at Allen & Hoshall, Consulting Engineers. Lewis was an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, where he served throughout his life. He was active in many organizations, both civic and business. Lewis will join in heaven his parents, sister Lucy Underhill, and his wife of 64 years, Jane Henderson Wood. He is survived by his wife Virginia Williams Wood, daughter Janie Mims, her husband Carl Mims, and their children Katie of California, Carly and Noah of Tennessee, Tripp of Utah, and Abigail of Montana. He was blessed with three great-grandchildren, along with Virginia Williams Wood’s two children, four grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. We have lost a man who loved the Lord and served his community.Services will be held Monday at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, with visitation at 10:30 am followed by the service at 11:30. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral.
