Dr. William W. Walker, Jr.'s Obituary
Dr. William White Walker Jr., 88, of Memphis Tennessee died Tuesday June 11th at Baptist Hospital as a result of injuries suffered in a fall. He was born July 8, 1923 in West Point, Mississippi to William White Walker Sr. and Roberta Burmister. He grew up in Memphis attending Snowden Elementary and Central High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He trained and served as a Navy Pilot during World War II. After the war, he enrolled in Tulane University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Doctorate of Medicine. He served on the faculty of the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences in the Department of Psychiatry, shared a private practice with Dr. Harris Lake Smith in Jackson, Tennessee. He then served as Chief of Outpatient Mental Health Services at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Memphis until his retirement. He went on to provide services for numerous small community mental health centers in west Tennessee. He is survived by his wife Mary L. Belenchia and his brother Dr. James W. Walker. He leaves his daughters, Golden Taylor Kvidera and Paige Walker Southard, grandchildren Stephanie Moore Thompson, Shelly Roberta Moore, Andrew Harris Southard, Bryce Walker Southard, and Elizabeth Southard Razzouk and great-grandchildren Nicholas Scott Thompson and Caitin Paige Thompson. Finally, he will be missed by his beloved “Little Friends” Pugs, Bo and Buddy. Visitation at Memorial Park Funeral Home is planned for Thursday, June 14 at 1:00. Services and burial will follow at 2:30. Father David Graham of St. Anne’s Catholic Church will be officiating. The Family requests that any memorials be sent to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
