William Henry Walker's Obituary
William Henry Walker “Billy”, 92, died January 27, 2010 at home in Destin, FL. He was born in Meridian, MS, on June 19, 1917 to Dr. Dryden Lamar and Evelyn Walker. He graduated from University of Mississippi, where he was a member of Sigma Chi, and the university tennis team. In 1941, he married the former lone Stewart of Osyka, MS. He was a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force in World War II and in 1946 went to work for HumKo (later Kraft, Inc) where he spent his entire career and became Vice President of HumKo Products. He and lone had three daughters: Robbie McQuiston of Memphis, Virginia Walker of Memphis, and Molly Walker of Austin, TX; five granddaughters: Caroline Parsons of San Marcos, TX; Anna Holtzclaw of Memphis; Alice Somers of Memphis; Katherine Bush of Memphis; Joy Miller of Austin, TX; and five great grandchildren (all of Memphis). He was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for years; a member of Al Chymia Shrine Temple; and a two time president of Chickasaw Country Club. In 1993, Ione died after a long battle with cancer during which Billy was her primary caregiver and support. In 1995, he married Mickey Laukhuff Walker and they spent 15 years together. Billy loved tennis, hunting, and growing roses. He was playing golf up until his 90th birthday and was an avid sports fan- particularly of football and golf. Billy read his Bible daily, practiced daily acts of kindness and generosity and in his last days described himself as “one of the luckiest guys in the world.” A graveside service for the family and friends will be held at Memorial Park, Monday, February 1, at 2 p.m. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the charity of giver’s choice.
