William R. Strickland's Obituary
William Raymond Strickland whom gave his adult life in military service for the country he loved, the USA, passed away on a day very precious to him, July 4th , 2010 in Texas. He was born and raised in Covington, TN. He is preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Lillie Strickland and his beloved wife of 68 years Dolly Strickland. They were married at 1st Baptist Church in December 7th 1941. Mr. Strickland then joined the Army-Air Corps for WWII. After the war the Corp split so he stayed for 4 years in the Army, then joined the Air Force and Navy. He became a civilian worker at the Memphis Base as Chief Maintenance Officer in charge of aircraft repair. In the mid 60’s the base closed and he transferred to the base in Texas and assumed the same status. He was plagued with bad health after leaving Tennessee until his death. He leaves behind two daughters Shirley Son (widow) of Tennessee, Kitty Ashcraft (Robert) of Texas. He also had three grandchildren Veronica Starnes (Joe) of Knoxville, TN, William Andy Forsythe (Abby) of Spring Hill, TN, and Dustin Ashcraft of Texas. He had 4 great-grandchildren, Jessica Abner (Drew), Brandon Starnes (Amanda), both of Knox County, TN, Christopher Forsythe of Spring Hill, TN and Michael Forsythe (Caitlin) of San Diego, CA. He was also blessed with a great-great- granddaughter Lillian Grace Abner of Knox County, TN. Burial will be a Memorial Park Cemetery following a visitation at 10:00 a.m. in a stateroom, the funeral service will also be held in the stateroom at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 9, 2010. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
