William Reed's Obituary
William M. “Bill” Reed, 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Christmas Day, December 25, 2015. He was a retired merchandising executive with Sears Catalog and former Director of Replenishment for Fred’s Inc. Bill was a deacon and fifty-five year member of Colonial Baptist Church. He was a 1956 graduate of the University of Memphis and an active member of the Millington High School class of ‘51 Alums. He was an avid golfer and proud of his April 25, 1984 hole-in-one at Fox Meadows. He was also a fourteen year Gallery Marshall for the FedEx St. Jude Classic. His hobbies were American history and writing. He authored the popular book, Safe Harbor: A Boy’s Story and was a frequent contributor to the Commercial Appeal Letters to the Editors. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Glenda West Reed; daughters, Lisa Bailey (Dan) of Memphis and Lynne Thomas (Mark) of Atlanta, GA; son, Mark Reed (Jill Lansing) of Miami, FL; five grandsons, Dr. Zachary Bailey, Grant Thomas, Andrew Thomas, Mark Reed Jr., and Ian Reed; two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Carol Hughey; and favorite niece, Mallory Hughey. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Reed Smith and Mary Louise Reed. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m., Sunday, December 27 and funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday December 28 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.His services have been entrusted to the care of Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis TN 38119.
