Bill Powell
I am so sorry to hear this news. I got to know Bill through working in the criminal justice system for a number of years. We worked closely together on a couple of projects and my favorite memory is attending a conference with Bill in Washington DC. One evening while at that conference, we took a train from DC to Baltimore to see a baseball game. Bill and I were both big baseball fans. The next afternoon he suggested that we go to another game evening. It was a bit of a rush, but after finishing the last workshop, we hopped quickly on the local train, which took us straight to the ballpark. We got out to see a large ground, exiting the stadium. Unbeknownst to us it had been an afternoon game and we just missed it. We walked around for a bit and by the time we got back, the train had left and we learned that it was the last train back to DC. We eventually had to catch an Amtrak train back and did not get back into DC until just after midnight. The local trains had stopped running at midnight and no cabs were in sight so we were stuck. We ended up walking a couple of miles back to our hotel. I had gotten a bit frustrated with all of the travel missteps and Bill turned to me and said “well, Bill, it’s just an adventure.” That is one of my favorite stories. Bill was a true gentleman and a dedicated public servant. My condolences to his family and friends. I will miss him.
