William "Bill" Powers' Obituary
William “Bill” G. Powers, 77, passed away September 13, 2014. He was born August 2, 1937 in Memphis, TN to George and Hermine Powers. Bill was the owner of Spirits of Timbercreek in Cordova for over 20 years. A graduate of Catholic High and Christian Brothers College, he coached both football and baseball in Parkway Village in the 60’s and 70’s. Bill was a devoted husband to his wife, Carolyn of 55 years, father to Pat (Lauran), Mike (Sandy), Lisa Carpenter (Glenn) and Brian (Meredith); grandfather to Shawn Spendlove (Brandy), Russell, Kalli, Wen, Brennan, Kail, Payton, Layne, Braxton, and Louie Powers and Madison, Cara and Kamryn Carpenter and great grandfather to Chanler Spendlove. Bill enjoyed his Sunday Golf, CBHS football, Italian Festival and his Destin vacations. He was beloved by his family, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8151 Chimney Rock in Cordova, on Tuesday, September 16 from 5:00-7:30 p.m. with a rosary to follow. A funeral mass will also be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 17 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations can be sent to Catholic Charities or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
