William David Newsom's Obituary
William (Bill) David Newsom was born on November 6, 1938. He departed to be with the Lord Jesus in the early hours of July 4, 2013. He was 74 years old. A lifelong resident of Memphis, TN, Bill died after an extended battle with pulmonary fibrosis.Bill is the son of David Hale Newsom of Whiteville, TN and Alberta (Bert) Carnal Newsom of Wildersville, TN. Bill leaves two brothers T. Joe Newsom and Dan L. Newsom and two sisters-in-law, Barbara and Sharon.Bill was married for almost 50 years to Virginia Ruth Sanders Newsom. Bill was a beloved father to Stephanie Ann Sadowski Bowen (Rick) of Scituate, MA, Donald David Newsom (Debbie) of Memphis, TN, Robin Marie Newsom Mobley (Jim) of Memphis, TN, and William Lester Newsom (Ginger) of Oxford, MS. He is survived by 9 grandchildren: Meghan Bowen, Matthew Bowen, Sarah Newsom, Morgan Newsom, Ginny Mobley Windsor (Kevin), Jimmy Mobley, Anna Grace Newsom, Caroline Newsom, and Luke Newsom.Bill attended Southside High School (’56). He served in the United States Army out of high school, achieving the rank of Staff Sargent. He graduated with a degree in Accounting from Memphis State University (’68) and went on to have a lifelong career as a Certified Public Accountant, serving with a number of firms before starting his own. He earned his Masters in Business Administration from Memphis State University in 1989. Bill delighted in his second career, teaching Accounting and Auditing for 30 years at a Southwest Community College. Bill was a member of Grace Evangelical Church in Germantown, TN, serving in the ministry to men as well as teaching Sunday School.A memorial service will be held at Grace Evangelical Church at 9750 Wolf River Blvd. in Germantown, TN on , July , 2013 at pm. Visitation will begin at pm at the church in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Reformed University Fellowship at 1700 N Brown Road, Suite 104, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30043 or online at www.ruf.org.
