William Edward Melton's Obituary
William Edward Melton, age 82, passed away in Nashville TN on July 22, 2013. Born in Jackson, MS, he graduated from Mississippi College in Clinton MS, the University of Alabama and Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond VA. Prior to attending seminary, he taught history at Bailey Junior High in Jackson MS. The pastor at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Memphis for 25 years, he retired from the ministry in 1994. He also taught history and government at Southwest Tennessee Community College for over 15 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Helen Scott Carter Melton. Survivors include daughter, Lydia Helen Melton of Nashville; brother, Dr Julius W. Melton (Ann) of Davidson, NC; sister, Mary Burries (Denny) of Charlotte, NC and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at First Presbyterian Church Memphis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheime’s Association.
