William Blake McSwain, Sr.'s Obituary
William Blake “Mac” McSwain, Sr. passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2009. He is survived by his wife Jane, children William “Bill” McSwain, Jr., Mrs. James (Maria) Burke, Mrs. Douglas (Bettye) Jones and H. Michael McSwain, all of Memphis. His daughter Mrs. David (Michelle) Williams predeceased him in 2006. He is also survived by his sister Louise Liles of Huntingdon, TN and a brother, Harold McSwain, of Walnunt Creek, CA. Mr. McSwain had eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Mr. McSwain was born and grew up in Trezevant, TN. He entered the Army in 1942 and served in the Second Division in the European Theater during WWII. He was proud of his service participating in D-Day Plus One, the Battle of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, and the liberation of concentration camps. After the War, Mr. McSwain returned to Tennessee where he married Eleanor Jane Jones and moved to Memphis. He had a long and successful career in real estate and land development. He was known for quality construction of residential and commercial projects and for generosity with everyone. He donated land for public park use and was active in community affairs throughout the county. He was especially known for his love of family and for his quick wit and bright sense of humor. He liked people, especially children and was able to make friends easily wherever he went.Memorial Park Funeral Home has charge. Visitation will be on Monday, February 2, 5:00-7:00 PM. Funeral will be Tuesday, February 3, at 10:00 AM. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or the Methodist Hospital Foundation, in memory of both Mr. McSwain and Michelle Williams.
