William McPherson's Obituary
William Eldridge (Bill) McPherson, was born in Memphis, TN to William Eldridge McPherson and Emma Shivers McPherson on February 14, 1933, passed away on August 22. A graduate of Bartlett High School, Bill served in the U.S. Navy and later attended Memphis State University (now U of M). Upon early retirement from South Central Bell (now AT&T), he purchased and operated a grocery store for several years. Still not ready to fully retire, he most recently worked part-time for Lowe’s in Olive Branch. Bill enjoyed water sports, photography, and automobile racing (especially Indy car and Grand Prix racing). He had an insatiable interest in everything and was an avid reader. Most of all, he loved and enjoyed his family, always putting them before anything else. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 58 years, Mildred (Millie) Preuitt McPherson, daughter Jill Peterson, son, Eric McPherson, grandchildren, Jaime Halupnik (Brad), Hayley Peterson, and Zachary Peterson, and great grandsons, Hayes Thomas Halupnik and Hudson William Halupnik. Visitation will take place at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 25 from 5-7 p.m. His memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 26 also at Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
