William McCrary's Obituary
William Wightman McCrary III, 71, of Memphis, TN, passed away on April 8, 2014. Bill was a lifelong Memphian born to William McCrary, Jr. and Kathryn McCrary on May 19, 1942. He was a graduate of White Station High School, lettering in three sports and winner of the Sam Behr Memorial Trophy, and the University of Arkansas, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. A truly patriotic and loyal citizen, Bill served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was also a board member of The Phoenix Club of Memphis. Bill began his industrial real estate career of over forty years at Farnsworth and Associates. Early success led to the creation of his own firm, McCrary and Company. Bill was a man with faith in Christ as his Lord and Savior. His energetic and engaging spirit, coupled with his contagious smile and laugh, touched the lives of many as he spread his positive attitude and passion for life. He certainly lived life to the fullest. Bill shared his passion for sports with his son Whit, creating many special memories. He was a role model and “surrogate father” for many of Whit’s friends who were proud to call Bill their friend. With his tremendous strength and character, he inspired them to be better men and better fathers. He was a wonderful Pappy to his two grandsons, Mac and Knox, whom he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Helen Lewis McCrary (Tancie). Bill is survived by his son, William Wightman McCrary IV (Elizabeth), his two grandsons William Wightman McCrary V and John Knox McCrary, his sister Kathryn Hope Logan and his beloved Ginger Gee Owings. On Friday, April 11, 2014, visitation is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Communion. A memorial service will be held at the church at 4:30 p.m. followed by a burial at Memorial Park.
