William Thomas Maxwell's Obituary
William Thomas Maxwell, Jr. of Memphis, TN was born in Savannah, GA to Ailine W. and William Thomas Maxwell, Sr. He is survived by his partner, Richard E. Travers, his mother, Ailine Maxwell; sisters, Dabney M. Millar and Anne M. Scates (Ron); several nieces; nephews; and a great-niece and great-nephew. He was predeceased by his father, William Thomas Maxwell, Sr. Bill will be deeply missed by his many friends and colleagues. Bill was a graduate of Duke University as well as the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. He was the owner of a highly successful real estate law firm and received several distinguished awards throughout his law career. Bill was known for his exquisite taste, especially in the area of decorative arts. In addition, he had a great love for travel. He was a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, the Memphis Bar Association, Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, and Decorative Arts Trust where he previously served on the Board of Directors, providing legal counsel. There will be a private burial service for the family. A celebration of his life for family and friends will be held at the University Club, on Central Avenue, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.
