William Ricky Lane's Obituary
William Ricky Lane, age 76, of Germantown, Tennessee, went to be with our lord on April 22nd, 2020 after a brief battle with illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God gave him and his family peace.
Ricky was born to the late Inez Jowers Lane and William E. Lane, on October 22nd, 1943, in Milan, Tennessee. He attended Milan High School before attending Memphis State University where he became a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Sigma Chi's core values are friendship, justice, and learning. Ricky held these values close to his heart throughout his life and did his best to live by them every day.
After graduating with a degree in Engineering, Ricky went to work for Memphis Light, Gas and Water, as an engineer, where he worked for 46 years. Ricky was a man who believed in hard work and loved his job. He was never one to miss a day and was always willing to step up and help those he worked with. He took great pride in his work and always had a new story from work to tell. Ricky also enlisted in the United States Army Reserves and served 34 years as a warrant officer.
Ricky married Linda Parminter Lane on December 21st, 1980 and together they lived their lives with love, humility, humor, and a love for the Lord. Ricky loved his family and showed his love through his dry wit and humor. No family event was complete without his silly grin or insistent teasing.
Ricky was a man of God and loved to read his bible. He knew that with God, all things were possible and believed that keeping his faith strong was priority number one. A testament to his belief can be seen through one of his favorite bible verses; “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6. He strongly believed in supporting missions through his church, Bellevue Baptist Church, where he was an active member. He was also an avid HAM Radio operator and made friends from all over the world through his hobby.
Ricky is survived by his wife Linda Parminter Lane of Germantown, Tennessee, daughter Rachel Johnson (Scott) of Cabot, Arkansas, brother Barry G. Lane (Rebecca) of Bartlett, Tennessee, sister Terry Sue Reed (Freck) of Arlington, Tennessee, grandchildren Ashton Walker (Cole) Lauren Taylor Johnson, four nieces, and one nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Inez Lane. A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Park in Memphis, Tennessee on Tuesday, April 28th, 2020. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Union Missions or a charity of your choice in Memphis, Tennessee. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Memorial Park Funeral Home.
“My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.”
~ Psalm 73:26
