William H. Hinson Jr.'s Obituary
William H. Hinson, Jr. of Germantown, TN, passed on January 11, 2023 at Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital; he was 79. He was predeceased by his parents, William Hinson Sr. (Hank) and, Jeanne Hinson.
A native Floridian, Bill was born in Jacksonville, Florida and lived in a little farming community in central Florida. He graduated Lakeview High School in Winter Garden and went on to Florida State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1966.
He joined the Marine Corps reserves, worked as a distribution manager in the citrus industry, for an advertising agency and held various marketing managing position in the fast food and hospitality industries in Florida, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Ohio.
Bill loved music – all genres of music. He also possessed an eye for color and design and discovered that he was really an artist at heart. He attended the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence and graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1991. He taught design at RISD, the University of Memphis, and the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. His graphic design projects included corporate identity, publications and signage. He later gravitated to painting and exhibited some of his works at the Leonard Tourné Gallery in New York City.
Bill adored his family and was a really cool husband, father and grandfather. He was married for 53 years, and is survived by his wife, Marilyn, daughters Lenore Hinson of New York City and Lauren (Gary) Hinson, and granddaughter Lake of Lebanon, CT; brothers Robert Hinson of Shelbyville, TN; Jeffrey Hinson of Jamestown, TN; and sister, Gina Grossman of Winter Garden, FL. He was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Germantown.
