I met Bill at the first USS MG Vallejo SSBN 658 Reunion in Vallejo. I still tell the story of our group visit to the diesel boat Pampanito at Fisherman’s Wharf. We took over 100 people on board and the tour guide was just terrible. Bill took over the tour telling all of us how the boat worked, it’s colorful history and answering every question that was asked of him. The tour guide asked me “What does he think he is doing?” I said, “Son, Master Chief has enough sailors here to take this thing to sea so you better be quiet.” He said, well we have no propeller, I’d like to see him try.” I just smiled and said to him, “He is a Master Chief sonny, he don’t need a propeller.” Every reunion we attended together I would seek him out. I am so sorry for your loss. I have added Bill’s plaque to our Memorial Wall. Sailor, rest your oar. Jim Carter SSBN 658 Webmaster
