William Domico's Obituary
William “Bill” Domico died May 15, 2011. Born January 31, 1949, he was the youngest child of Pasquale and Irma Domico. Bill grew up in Buffalo, NY, and served four years as a corpsman in the United States Navy after graduating from high school. He was wounded in action while assisting another wounded soldier and received a Navy Commendation Cross and Purple Heart. After military discharge, Bill received undergraduate and master’s degrees from Tulane University (B.S. 1976; M.S. 1978) and a doctorate in Audiology from Florida State University (Ph.D. 1981). He was an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Disorders at Radford University from 1981 to 1983 and then moved to Memphis in 1984 to join the Audiology faculty at the University of Memphis as an assistant professor. Bill obtained his law degree from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis (J.D. 1989) and was admitted to the Tennessee Bar that same year. He tried cases in many of Tennessee’s courts and argued at all levels of its appellate system. He was admitted to practice before the U. S. District Courts of Tennessee and Arkansas and argued in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Court. He was certified as a Medical Malpractice Specialist by the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization. He was a member of the Memphis and Tennessee Bar Associations, the Defense Research Institute, the Tennessee Defense Lawyers Association, and the Council on Litigation Management, where he served on the Professional Liability Committee and Medical Malpractice Subcommittee. His practice areas included medical malpractice defense, healthcare law, medical device defense, and environmental law. Bill enjoyed playing pool, watching Buffalo Bills football games each season, and working in his yard. He was a devoted husband and father and is survived by his wife of almost 28 years, Elizabeth Hutcheson Domico, and his two sons, Patrick Hutcheson Domico and Adam Thomas Domico, all of Memphis. He also is survived by a sister, Pauline Gagnon (Harold) of Buffalo, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Paul Domico. A service will be held at St. Philip Episcopal Church on Thursday, May 19 at 4 p.m. Visitation will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18. The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Memphis Oral School for the Deaf or to an education fund for Bill’s two children through Memphis Area Teachers Credit Union.
