Dr. William A. Darnell's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Dr. William Albert Darnell
Savannah, TN - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and devoted servant of God, “Brother Bill”. He was called home to be with the Lord on September 4th, 2023, at the age of 79, surrounded by the love of his family.
Bill was born to Willis Glenn and Estaleena Darlison Darnell, who instilled in him the values of faith, compassion, and love that would define his life's journey.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Gaye Novak Darnell, who stood by his side through every trial and triumph, a testament to their enduring love and commitment to one another – 57 years strong. As a loving and dedicated father, Bill leaves behind two sons, William David (Cindi) Darnell and Daniel Gene (Stephanie) Darnell. Bill’s love extended to his two grandchildren, Paige and Wesley Darnell who called him Grandaddy. During fishing trips with Wes and excursions to New York with Paige, they built cherished memories that will be passed down for years to come. He is also survived by his brothers, Wayne and Jim Darnell. His guidance, wisdom, and love have forever shaped their lives, and his legacy will continue to live through them.
Bill received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lamar University. Early into his engineering career at Bethlehem Steel where he designed offshore oil rigs, he was called into full time ministry. Amongst his almost 50 years in ministry, he pastored numerous churches across Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Florida. He also started a non-profit organization called People Sharing Jesus Ministries that specialized in church planting and spreading the gospel. Through PSJM, his ministry touched countless lives and won people for Christ across America. His commitment to his faith was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Beyond his roles as a husband, father, and grandfather, Bill was a man of many talents and passions. He was an accomplished recreational pilot, an avid outdoorsman, and a world traveler.
The funeral Service for Dr. Darnell will be held on Friday, September 8th, 2023 at 11:00am in the Fireside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation an hour and half prior to the service starting at 9:30am. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or People Sharing Jesus Ministries, which were both dear to Bill’s heart and embodies his commitment to helping those in need.
