William (Bill) Edward Thomasson's Obituary
William (Bill) Edward Thomasson, 73, passed away suddenly at home on February 9, 2023, from complications of lung cancer.
The second son of a career army officer, Bill was born in Memphis, Tennessee on December 10, 1949, and lived on three army posts in three different countries before his family settled in Memphis, Tn. where he grew up. Bill joined the army as a teenager and served six years of active duty, serving in Germany, Korea, and Viet Nam. Following his discharge from the army, Bill returned to Memphis where he worked for many years in security for the Defense Department at the Defense Depot on Airways Boulevard and at the Navy facility on President’s Island. He also served several years in the army reserve in Mississippi. He was most proud of the several years that he served as a reserve police officer with the Shelby County Sheriff’s department.
Preceded in death by his parents James F. Thomasson, Sr and Melva Janke Thomasson, a sister Marjorie Christian of Memphis, and a brother Bob Thomasson of Carson City, Nevada.
Bill is survived by his wife Lynn Justin of Tucson, Arizona, a daughter Melissa Corley of Oakland, Mississippi, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson son. He is also survived by one brother, Jim Thomasson, and four sisters: Marilyn Tant, Joyce Bledsoe, and Susan Thomasson, all of Memphis, and Katherine Lax, of Jackson, Tn.
