I have known Carolyn for 7 years. She loved Bill so much. As his memory was failing she always sought ways to keep his sharp mind connected. She would drop him off at U of M engineering department and track him without him knowing so he could still feel connected to his profession being on campus but unable to teach. He knew none for the better. My wife Kay and I would see him at various ukulele events Carolyn and I played in which he enjoyed. He would talk about different things with my wife Kay while watching us play!
Carolyn brought him to our ukulele jam nights routinely, which he always enjoyed. Wood was and is a wonderful son and helped his mom out with his dad. They were and are so humbly proud of Wood. They were lucky to have Bill and he was lucky to have them. We are all the better for knowing the Rodgers family!

As an elevator controller design engineer, I met Bill at Dover Elevator in 1980. We connected right away and stayed connected throughout his life! My wife and I dined in his home with Carolyn and him, I did work at their home many times, he fellowshipped with us at the church when he was not at his home church, he joined with us at church on outings, he and I shared many Sunday morning commutes from his home to our church talking about the issues of the day as well as spiritual matters. Bill loved taking pictures! He entered a photo of my oldest daughter when she was about 2 years old in a contest at the Fairgrounds Amusement Park back the 1980s here in Memphis, and it won 2nd place! Bill and Carolyn were sort of like extended family members! There is so much I can say about this guy. God knows I will miss him. I know he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Bill was such a sweet and caring gentleman.
He will be missed and our hearts are heavy at his passing. But we do not grieve as those who do not know Jesus! We can count it as joy that he is now in the awesome presence of God.

Bill was a good and kind man. When I would ask him how he was doing, he would often say, "Fine -- where it matters." My late father helped Bill get a job in engineering at Dover Elevator (Thyssen Krupp, now). Bill and I met for coffee frequently, I believe in the 1990s. I miss Bill.
