I have many wonderful memories from my childhood of Uncle Bill and Aunt Charlotte as they were always very special to me and it was always a treat to see and be with them. And you never knew what to expect! After they moved to San Clemente, California, we had a wonderful road trip across country from Tennessee to visit them there. While there, when we were taking a trail down to the beach I fell into a camouflaged fox hole and got all scratched up really bad. I remember that night Uncle Bill holding and rocking me as he tried to get me to forget about my pain. Once we moved to California we took several trips from San Mateo to visit them. On one of our visits while outside their apartment us kids were playing a game on the stairs with coins and I took one of the pennies & hid it in my mouth where I proceeded to accidentally swallowed it. Uncle Bill then held me upside down to try to shake it out of me but needless to say that didn’t work. Once when I was very upset and angry at my parents I ran away and I was running to San Clemente to go stay with my Uncle Bill & Aunt Charlotte (after all they lived close to Disneyland). Needless to say I was only a couple miles from home when the police found me. Then when we moved to Upland, California, we had a lot more frequent trips to their home in San Clemente and loved going there and to the beach. I always felt blessed and very fortunate that I was able to allow them to use our condo in Maui for their anniversary celebration. And after they left, the island was much smaller because they had taken so many of the volcanic rocks back home with them in their suitcases. Uncle Bill really cracked me up telling me the story of them getting those rocks through security at the airport. Uncle Bill will be truly missed but at least now he’s not suffering anymore and he is with the one & only love of his life, Aunt Charlotte, which is where I know he wants to be.
