William "Bill" Hall Jr.'s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William “Bill” H. Hall, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on September 7, 2023, at the age of 77.
Bill was born on April 5, 1946, to Will and Lorene Hall (Carr) in New Albany, MS. He was a talented athlete who loved playing football. He was quarterback for W.P. Daniel High School in New Albany and received a scholarship to play for Itawamba Junior College and later for Mississippi College. Bill would laugh when recounting the story of when he reported to football camp at Itawamba as a 5’6-½” incoming Freshman, was told where to meet up with the other trainers and answered, no sir, I’m here to be your quarterback. Bill was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the United States Army. He later graduated from Delta State University and began his career as an electrical sales representative, ultimately owning and retiring from Metro Electrical Sales Company in Memphis.
Bill & Trish looked forward every year to the opening of college football season, rooting for Ole Miss, the Memphis Tigers, and other SEC teams – provided they weren’t playing Ole Miss, of course. They loved traveling to the Smokey Mountains and to Orange Beach. Bill was an avid outdoorsman; especially enjoying golf, hunting, keeping his yard in immaculate condition, and teaching his children how to hold the water hose at a 90-degree angle at car-washing time. He was very involved in his children’s activities as spectator and sometimes coach. He loved to have long conversations with his grandchildren about all that was going on in their lives and their plans for the future. Bill loved spending time with his family, whether just cooking out or creating memorable holidays for them – he was like a big kid planning for Halloween and Christmas.
Bill is survived by his wife of 52 and a half years, Patricia “Trish” Hall and their three children, daughter, Kelley (Robert) Vinton of Memphis, TN, sons Gabe (Miranda) Hall of Franklin, TN, and Nate (Alycia) Hall of Cordova, TN, his 7 grandchildren, Kat, Alex, Wyatt, Jacob, Lucy, Sam, and Luzetta. He is also survived by his sister, Willa (Charles) Moore of Corinth, MS, and his brother, Ed (Mary) Hall of Walnut Creek, California. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Georgia LaFerny.
Bill leaves a giant hole in our lives; he will be greatly missed but will live on in our hearts. We will always remember and perpetuate his joy of life, his optimism, how he never met a stranger, and most of all, his “Bill Hall-isms”, of which there are many, a favorite being, “Behave – but if you can’t, have fun!”
Funeral Services for Bill will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at 11:00am in the Riverside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home with Military Honors. The family will receive friends for visitation an hour prior to the service starting at 10:00am. Burial will take place in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
