Dr. William (Bill) G. Crump
Bill was a home birth in Nashville, Tennessee on March 30, 1938. His parents were Mary Elizabeth Griffin and William Benton Crump. Bill graduated from Isaac Litton High School and attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he was a member of Sigma Nu. He graduated from George Peabody College with a Bachelor’s Degree. He completed graduate degrees at the University of Memphis and the University of Tennessee.
Bill began his career in education by teaching at Bartlett High School. He then worked for the University of Tennessee Medical Units. Following an internship at UT Knoxville he taught at Collierville High School. He joined the University of Memphis in 1982 where he was responsible for graduate and international admissions. He also served as Adjunct Professor in the College of Education.
Bill was a charter member of the Memphis Scottish Society and proudly wore the Macintosh Kilt.
Bill was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Collierville and attended St. Mary’s Cathedral in Memphis. For many years Bill directed the St. Cecilia Singers. His lifelong interests were science, education, and music. Bill loved to read non-fiction books, he was always learning and teaching. He never met a stranger and would always ask a person where they went to school or where they lived, and the conversation would bloom. Bill always took interest in others.
Bill is survived by his daughter Loren Crump Todd (Danny Young) and his grandson Malcolm Todd (Michale Todd). He would also like to remember his companion, Beth McGowan.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Holy Apostles in Collierville, TN Friday May 17th at 11am, visitation will take place at the church at 10am.
Any memorials should be sent to St. Mary’s Cathedral and designated for their outreach ministry to the unsheltered or to the donor’s animal rescue group of their choice.
