William Bailey, Jr.'s Obituary
William V. Bailey Jr., 90, died Friday, July 2, 2010 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving daughters. He was born in Schlater, MS on October 5, 1919. After graduating high school and moving to Memphis, he attended Draughons Business College in Accounting and Business Administration. Beginning a career with Pure Oil Company, he went on with business opportunities in Birmingham, AL, Atlanta, GA, and finding his way back to Memphis eventually establishing his business, Industrial Bolt and Screw Company. He served in the Navy from 1941 as Chief Petty Officer until 1945 when he married his sweetheart, Nan Bloodworth. Bill was a successful and respected business owner, outstanding salesman, devoted husband, father and grandfather. As a member for many years of First Evangelical Church and First Assembly of Cordova, he served as a faithful teacher, deacon and elder. Over the years Bill served in community and church board positions, and as a member of the Gideon’s International he displayed his passion to spread the Word of God. His life will be remembered most for his faithfulness to God, love of family, integrity and encouragement to others. His parents, William V. Bailey, Sr. and Davie Proctor Bailey; and his wife of 62 years, Nan Bloodworth Bailey, precede Bill in death. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Bailey, three daughters, Nan Niell of Memphis, Sally Thompson and her husband Tommy, of Franklin TN, Dottie Mooney and her husband Bill, of Franklin, TN. He also leaves 7 grandchildren, Paul Niell and his wife Johnette, Jonathan Niell, Scott, Kelly and Brett Thompson, William Mooney and his wife Afton, and Brooke Mooney. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m., Thurday, July 8, at First Assembly of Cordova, 8650 Walnut Grove Road, Cordova, TN. Service to follow at 2 p.m. also on Thursday, in the church chapel. Memorials may be sent to First Assembly of Cordova.
