William Archer Bagley, Jr.'s Obituary
William Archer Bagley, Jr. died peacefully surrounded by loving family on January 6. Bill was born in 1933 to Dr. William Archer Bagley and Elsie Snow Bagley in Richmond, VA, where he spent a happy childhood growing up on Monument Avenue and attending St. Christopher’s School as an outstanding student. He graduated from the University of Virginia after service in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity where he made life-long friends and attended reunions throughout his life. In Memphis, Bill was an insurance broker and president of B.U.S.I. He later moved into the trade of stocks and securities at Raymond James. Through the years, Bill participated in numerous community and civic organizations. He was elected president of the Navy League, both locally and on a state and national level. He was a long time member of Memphis Rotary Club, a member of Memphi, the University Club of Memphis, and a former member of the Country Club of Virginia. Bill and his wife, Melinda, were avid travelers and collectors of antique porcelain and pottery. Bill was the president of the International Tobacco Jar Collector’s Society and had a seat of honor at the Tobacco Corner’s round table. Bill leaves behind his wife, Melinda; and brother, Dr. Carter Snow Bagley of Ashville, N.C.; three sons, Archer, Rob, and Carter; stepchildren, Elizabeth Thompson and Wilson McCloy; and 10 grandchildren. Services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home Tuesday, January 10, at 1 p.m. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior to the service. He will be buried at Elmwood Cemetery.
