Wermund Hansen Sugg Sr's Obituary
Wermund Hansen Sugg Sr, 82, passed away August 26th, 2023. Wermund was born on September 21st, 1940 in Charlotte North Carolina to William Wingate Sugg Sr and Gudrun Elizabeth (Hansen) Sugg. Wermund graduated from East High School in 1959, and then attended Memphis State. At Memphis State, he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and served as class president in 62’. In 1963 Wermund married Sandra Pike of Memphis, TN. Wermund’s early career in the car industry moved him and his wife throughout the south in the 1960s, before welcoming their first born In Fall of 1969. They settled in Germantown TN in 1973 where they welcomed their second son in 1978. In August of this year, Wermund and Sandra celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Wermund followed his father into the car industry where he practiced sales for the Dodge-Chrysler Corporation. Wermund also severed in the U.S Naval reserves for seven years. In 1986, he received his second degree from the State Technical Institute and began a second career in logistics with FedEx in 1988. In 2018, Wermund retired after 30 years of service. Throughout his life, he continued to nurture his love for classic vehicles by collecting miniature trains, cars, and planes, which he proudly displayed in his home. He spent his weekends visiting estates sales throughout the Memphis metropolitan area on the hunt for the next addition to his collection. He enjoyed working on projects and finding opportunities to golf when he could. Wermund loved his dogs and granddogs and was blessed with their companionship throughout his life.
Wermund was preceded in death by his parents and one sibling William “Billy” Sugg Jr. Wermund is survived by his wife Sandra Sugg, and two sons Adam Sugg and Wermund Sugg Jr, Wermund Jr’s wife Lisa Sugg and his stepchildren Ava, Brady and Jackson.
The family invites friends to gather for visitation Thursday evening August 31, 2023, from 5:00 until 7:00 with Graveside Services at 10:00 Friday September 1, 2023, at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery 5668 Poplar Ave Memphis, TN.
