Wendell Bruce Joy's Obituary
Wendell Bruce Joy, 68, of Memphis, TN, departed this life on September 17, 2023. He was born to the union of Joseph Bernard Joy and Geraldine Rowlett Joy, who preceded him in death.
Wendell spent his formative years in Chicago, IL, and Los Angeles, CA, where he graduated from high school. Drafted into the US Army, he served in Vietnam as an Army Ranger and member of the 101st Airborne Division. He returned to Chicago after the Army and was employed as a steelworker at UNR Leavitt Manufacturer. Wendell moved back to his native Memphis in 1990 following an early retirement and meeting his wife.
Wendell was a loving husband and father. He leaves behind his devoted and beloved wife, Cheryl; two daughters, LaToya Brown (Jannsen) of Allen, TX; Alexis Joy (Jayson) of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren, Joshua Crowder of Allen, TX, and Jordan Smith, Kyler Jeffries, and Mason Joy (all of Chicago); one brother Jerald Joy; one sister, Linda Adams (Steve), and a special cousin, Anthony Brown. He was preceded in death by his sister, Claudia Joy, and a brother, Edward Gregg, Jr. Wendell leaves behind a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss and celebrate his life, including nieces Stephanie Adams of Chicago, IL, Daneshia Diaz of Atlanta, GA, Takiyah Joy of Chicago, Julia Rich of Chicago, and a nephew Brett Adams of Memphis.
Join us in celebrating Wendell’s life on Monday, September 25, at Memorial Park Funeral Home located at 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. Visitation will take place at 10 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m.
Wendell will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
