Wendell Ralph Garrett's Obituary
Wendell Ralph Garrett was born on December 6, 1945, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He passed away on July 16, 2025, after a long illness. He will be remembered for his loving nature, generous spirit, and infectious sense of humor. Wendell was a devout Christian who was ready to join his Lord. His personality brought warmth and joy to everyone he met, and he will be deeply missed.
Wendell was the son of Elton Ralph Garrett and Opal Mae Garrett. He is survived by one sister, Donna Breeden-Ward. Wendell shared 42 years of marriage with Ghita Tish Garrett and leaves four children: Jimmy Marler, Steven Garrett, Stacey Garrett, and Lance Garrett. His son, Johnny Marler, preceded him in death. He was blessed with nine grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Wendell graduated from Bartlett High School in 1964 and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He excelled in the Steamfitters apprenticeship program and was a member of the Steamfitters Local 614 and the United Association for 55 years where is was known as Ralph.
Wendell coached Little League baseball for 27 years where his main goals were to teach the fundamentals of the game and to make memories. He is fondly remembered by his players as Coach Wendell or Cuz. Another of Wendell's great passions was fishing. If he couldn't be out on the lake, he loved telling about "the one that got away."
Wendell was a wonderful man who was deeply loved and will truly be missed.
A celebration of Wendell's life will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday, July 23 at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Steamfitters Local 614 Benevolence Fund.
