Wedford Jackson Liddell's Obituary
Wedford Jackson “JACK” Liddell, 93, died Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Baptist East Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Louise Amos Liddell. Sons, Bob Liddell and his wife Anne of Hernando MS, Dan Liddell and his wife Jane of Germantown TN, and daughter Mary Davis and her husband J.D. of Kemp TX. Three grandchildren, Mike Liddell and his wife Denise, Michelle Woods, and Eric Liddell, and two great-grandchildren, Parker and Payton Liddell. Following his graduation from the University of Georgia with a degree in Agricultural Engineering, he served in World War II in the Infantry and as a Captain in the Air Force. He was assigned to fly B-25 Bombers. After the war, he was a reserve officer in the Air force and was employed by the University of Georgia on the Engineering Staff. He began designing and selling irrigation systems and components in 1949, and moved to Memphis in 1952. Jack was a longtime businessman in Memphis, founding Delta Irrigation in 1954 and its subsidiary Delta Marine in 1968. He was an active member of The Irrigation Association for over 52 years, serving as National President in 1980-1981. He also served on various committees and the National Board of Directors. As a member of the Memphis Propeller Club, he served as President and later as Vice President of the MidSouth Region. He was appointed to the National Board of Governors of the US Propeller Club, serving from 1984 – 1988. Jack held memberships in the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) for 70 years and the Memphis Sales Executive Club for 40 years, and Whitehaven Country Club for 20 years. The family will recieve friends from 5-8 PM Monday at Mermorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 at Mermorial Park Funeral Home Fireside Chapel. In luei of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the MS Society or charity of doners choosing.
