Wayne Grubbs' Obituary
Wayne Grubbs, 89, beloved father and grandfather passed away on December 29, 2023. He was resident of Collierville TN.
He was the son of Pinkney and Lucille Snipes Grubbs. He was born on May 29, 1934 in New Albany, MS and the oldest of 6 children. He moved to Memphis, TN in 1956 taking a job with Moss Furniture and later Haverty’s Furniture holding several sales and management positions during his 30+ year career. After retirement with Haverty’s he went to work as a security guard for Elvis Presley Enterprises for 10+ years. He enjoyed working at Graceland and meeting fans and guests from all over the world and being part of the Graceland family.
He was a man of faith from an early age and his love for the Lord was always on display. Over the years he attended Sherwood Baptist Church, Elliston Baptist Church and served as a deacon at both and currently was a member of Collierville First Baptist. His faith was unshakeable. He was a true fan of southern gospel music and enjoyed attending concerts as often as possible.
Over the years he owned property in Mississippi and enjoyed working on his farmland every chance he had raising cattle, riding his John Deer tractor and visits with his Mississippi family.
He is survived by his daughter, Regina Grubbs Gambill (Jimmy), his grandsons, Dalton Grubbs, Garrett Gambill and his granddaughter, Anna Gambill. In addition, his brother, Harold Grubbs, and sisters, Linda Meinz, Peggy Hollis (Tony) and Julia Baskin (Richard) and a host of nieces and nephews and extended family.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Marie Melton Grubbs, of 36 years in 1992 and by his son, Steven Wayne Grubbs in 1996. In addition, his parents, Pinkney and Lucille Grubbs, and sister, Martha Chunn.
The family will receive friends for visitation an hour prior to the service on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 1:00pm - 2:00pm in the Fireside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral Service will begin at 2:00pm in the Fireside Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital or the Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation.
